General Clean up for our cemeteries will begin on Monday, April 1st, 2019 at all Albany Diocesan Cemeteries. Lot owners are requested to remove any non-Spring seasonal decorations they wish to save before April 1st, 2019.

Fresh cut flowers in an approved vase are always permitted provided they are in good condition. All other Fall/Winter decorations will be removed during the cleanup.
The cleanup of all cemeteries takes some time, and depending on weather and the number of burials, may take a week to complete. During the cleanups, cemetery staff removes and discards all items from graves.

Groundskeepers are instructed to leave any permitted new seasonal decoration that appears to be newly placed and is in accordance with the current Cemetery Rules and Regulations. Of course, this is a judgment call for our staff, so it is better to wait until after the cleanup to place decorations. Items placed in violation of cemetery rules and regulations or in disrepair may be removed and discarded at any time.

Thank you for helping to keep our cemeteries beautiful!

Annual cemetery clean-ups start: Jan. 15 • Apr. 1 • Nov. 1

Please clean the grounds around the grave of John Murphy, who died at the battle of Antietam during the Civil War. His grave is located in the very back of St. Patrick’s Cemetery nearest to Billy’s Way. Thank you so much!!!

We will certainly check it out, and will also be resuming the Veterans Memorial Restoration Project at St. Patrick’s Cemetery this Spring. https://blog.capitaldistrictcemeteries.org/restoration-project-st-patricks-cemetery-watervliet/

When are people notified about this clean up? I was SHOCKED to find my flowers removed from my 8 stones I care for! They were on the stone and not in the way of mowing. I spent many hours and a decent amount of money on the flowers to put on the stones that are our property. Granted they were Xmas flowers but were nicely placed on stones and vases. Now I’m not investing to put spring flowers there.
I would like to know how the people are notified of the clean ups?

      Ms. Conlen,

Our annual clean up dates begin: Jan. 15 • Apr. 1 • Nov. 1. The cleanup of all cemeteries takes some time, and depending on weather and the number of burials, may take a week to complete. During the cleanups, cemetery staff removes and discards all items from graves.

Families are notified by large signs posted at the entrance months before each clean-up in each cemetery, as well as in our monthly newsletters, frequent blog posts, and social media.

I hope this information will assist you in future.
